"When I was a young kid, I always stayed up late at night. As the night came, there was time to simply be. Darkness has remained connected to this way of seeing: a space between being seen and being hidden, between vulnerability and refuge. In works where nature emerges from darkness, what appears strong can also be fragile, and what becomes hidden can become free. Within the shadow, there is less to defend and less to become. One can withdraw from expectation and simply exist without having to perform — perhaps coming closer to who one really is.
At the other end, the sun illuminates what was hidden. In its light, things are revealed. With visibility comes vulnerability. Like dreams, the images I return to exist somewhere between memory and imagination. Here, the desire to be seen meets the desire to disappear; to be exposed and to be left alone. What is familiar can become mysterious, and disappearing from view can also mean finding a way back to oneself. Time is never still, yet some images stay with us. When no one sees you, there is no need to be anyone special at all."
